The Beginning of an Era

Writing this post is bringing out a quite frightening revelation in me: this is really happening.

For the longest time, each member of the NorthBound Productions team has wanted to create wonderful content and develop their passions into functional skills that can be used to further our careers in the creative industry. The problem was always that there was no easily accessible platform through which we could do this. It had barely crossed my mind that I could create such a platform myself. Yet, when a new friend and ex-professional director suggested that I should create a production company and create these opportunities for myself and others... well, it seemed like a no brainer.

So, I contacted the team and we set up shop, planning for weeks and weeks over drinks at a pub and - eventually - over a cup of tea as we registered ourselves as an official company late at night. It was exciting, and still is. We all can't wait to start really producing content that we care about.

But content isn't everything to us.

As it turns out, creating new production companies isn't too uncommon for those wanting to get their new productions seen by professionals, however all the companies that I could find online seemed to be focused on content rather than the creatives behind it. That is not what we want this company to be. We aim to tell the stories of the creatives to professionals. Where did this writer come from and where could they go? How phenomenal could this sound designer be given further funding and correct equipment? If this actor had an agent, would they be well known by now? These are the questions we aim to ask by producing fascinating content of all kinds. We are not stuck to one form of media and indeed are skilled in both the stage and screen. Whether it's a short film, a play, a piece of gig-theatre, a radio-show or anything else, we're interested. We simply want to make the piece that shows our creatives off the best, and keeps an audience drooling for more of their work.

We have a long way to go before we put on large projects though. There's only three of us involved right now, and not really much funding. We are looking to run workshops and social events to raise some money and meet other creatives willing to get involved over the next few months. From there, we aim to support projects however we can - either through advertising and association, all the way to producing, financing, writing and performing ourselves.

It's an adventure, really, and though we have plans in place there's no saying where this could go. There's only one thing I know for sure:

There's a group of like-minded and talented individuals out there, and we want to be there for you.
