A Year of NorthBound Productions

One year ago today, NorthBound Productions was officially registered on Companies House. It’s crazy to think about really. When we started, we had aims and plans, but I think we were all slightly doubtful of what we would be able to actually pull off. Now, here we are, having had Inside Voice and our workshops as a roaring success, plus a wonderful collaboration with Alex Franklin on their show “I Must Reach the Summit Please God I Must Reach the Summit”.

The best part about all of this, as mentioned in our last blog post, is that there is still so much more to come, and we are officially underway with all of them and can make some exciting official announcements. Read ahead to find out more about how you can get involved.

Firstly, we loved every single script that came in as a submission to our screenplay competition, and it’s genuinely sad that we only have the resources to make two of them! Unfortunately, that’s the way it has to be (for now…). We can’t announce the winners here just yet, as we are in the process of informing them, but keep an eye out for more updates on the production of these short films! If you would like to get involved as an actor, director, producer, runner, cameraperson or anything else, then please get in contact with us either via social media or at northboundprodco@gmail.com.

Moving on, we also have our second theatrical production underway. We are collaborating with Summerseat Players’ Youth Group to put on An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by Elliot Scott, who we came into contact with through our Collaborative Readthrough in April. The play follows 4 teenagers and their struggles in growing up as the town around them slowly becomes gentrified and unrecognisable. Summerseat Players have been looking for a full play for their youth group to work on and gain experience from, hence it only felt right that we should collaborate with them by providing this script and running the production, particularly given the age of the characters. We are extremely grateful to Summerseat Players for letting us work with them, and we are so excited to see this play put onstage at the Theatre Royal in Ramsbottom circa March 2024!

Finally, although we have paused our public workshops for now, we have organised with a number of schools to go in and present workshops on “How can theatre impact the community?” and “Why is collaboration important in devising?” We are extremely excited to give back to the local schools that supported our creative development when we were younger, and it will be an honour to present these workshops.

Overall, there’s lots going on, and plenty for everyone to sink their teeth into. If you want to be involved in any way or have a project of your own that you would like us to facilitate, then please email us at northboundprodco@gmail.com and let us know. We can’t wait to hear from you.

So, it's been 6 months now since NorthBound Productions officially set up shop, and what have we done since then? Well, outwardly, not...
